ADOS Introduction

What does ADOS stand for?
Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule

What is it?
A standardized diagnostic measure that scores direct observations of a child's interactions; it also accounts for the developmental level and age of the child.

How is it organized?
It takes roughly 30-60 minutes to administer and consists of four different modules for use with individuals of different developmental and language levels.

How is it measured?
The ADOS is standardized in terms of the materials used, the activities presented, the examiner's introduction of activities, the hierarchical sequence of social presses provided by the examiner, and the way behaviors are coded or scored. Following the administration of the ADOS, behaviors are coded using a 0- to 3-point coding system, with a 0 indicating that the behavior is not abnormal in the way specified in the coding description and a 3 indicating that a behavior is abnormal and interferes in some way with the child's functioning.

How much does the training cost?
Workshop cost is $329.00 for the complete 2-day course, including the registration packet. Participants are encouraged to register at least 3 weeks prior to the workshop to allow enough time to order the ADOS manual and review the DVD and booklets included in the registration packet.

Where can I get the training?
The ADOS Training for Clinicians, designed for clinical use of the ADOS, is strongly recommended for those intending to use the instrument in clinical practice.   If you are a clinician and do not need the ADOS for research purposes, it is possible for you to purchase a manual and a kit from the following:
